Can acromegaly cause
shoulder osteoarthritis
and chronic inflammation?
A. Acromegaly can contribute to the problem because people with your
condition tend to have
ligament laxity because of the overgrowth of your
bones.
Shoulder replacement may not be effective because of the nature of the
joint, it is not a ball and socket like the hip. It may be perfected one
day, but that day has not yet come.
If your problems come from mostly overhead activity such as painting or
reaching, that tells us that the bone spur may be a problem in your
case, and probably would need to be shaved in a fairly minor surgical
procedure.
You may still have pain afterwards not related to the spur which
Prolotherapy would help you with. If overhead action is not your main
problem, and for example you say, “It hurts when I lay on it, it tires
easily, it aches all the time,” then you are a
candidate for Prolotherapy
Concerning the chronic inflammation, two things may be causing this:
Tendonopathy, truly damaged tendons, which
Prolotherapy could help heal,
or a muscle inflammation in response to their having to hold your
damaged joint in place, which they are not made to do. This "response"
inflammation is not part of the healing cycle of inflammation that
Prolotherapy promotes. Muscle spasm (inflammation) because of underlying
ligament
injury/laxity, would almost always stop if the ligaments are
strengthened with Prolotherapy.
