Diet and Chronic Pain

Mark, came to see us for shoulder pain, having been diagnosed with a labral tear, he was told that shoulder surgery was his only option, instead he chose Prolotherapy for his shoulder.

His pain was such that he could no longer workout and common daily activities like opening a door or a jar caused pain. He also complained of fatigue and told us he was working with a natural medicine doctor in his home town because he had low
Testosterone levels. Mark was constantly traveling for work, so the pain would often slow him down.

At Mark’s next visit he went to our lab to have Hauser Diet Typing done before his Prolotherapy treatment. His results showed that he was a slow oxidizer and had acidic blood pH. His slow oxidation showed that he had vegetarian physiology and would need to follow the Monkey Diet Type.

Diet Adjustments

His current diet was  balanced between carbohydrates, protein, fat and vegetables. A typical day looked like:

Breakfast: oatmeal, juice or a protein shake

Lunch: sushi or tuna steak with vegetables

Snack: Peanut butter protein shake, fruit and nuts

Dinner: chicken or fish sandwich with Asian vegetables

            Snack: fruit or chips

Drinks: tea, juice, milk, beer, mixed drinks

So Mark would need to decrease the fat and protein to resemble more of a low-fat vegetarian diet.

In addition to the diet change, Mark would have to avoid his food allergies. Out of the 190 foods tested for an IgG delayed response allergy, Mark tested positive for over 50 foods – he had a lot of adjustments to make! He worked very closely with the nutritionist to come up with meal ideas that incorporated all of these foods yet fit within the Monkey Diet and his busy travel schedule.

Within four weeks of following the Monkey Diet and avoiding his food allergies Mark was seeing some great improvements. He was back to working out 5-6 days a week doing cardio and lifting weights. His energy had improved and he told us he was amazed at what food could do to his body! He had continued to work with is natural medicine doctor to adjust his hormones and was seeing the benefits of Prolotherapy, proper diet and balanced hormones.

We didn’t hear from Mark for about 2 months, his work schedule had picked up quite a bit, so we asked him to contact us to let us know how he was feeling. We received a very encouraging email from him, stating he was feeling better than ever: His shoulder pain was relieved; he was starting to build back the muscles around the shoulder and making good progress too and was hoping to implement more dynamic type activity once he felt strong and stable.

Can Eating the Wrong Foods Cause You PAIN?
There are only two ways to eat – the right way and the wrong way! So you are either eating the right kinds of foods in the right amounts or you are not doing that. Do you know for sure that you are eating the right kinds of foods in the right amounts? If you answered “no”, you are not alone.

There is no known cure for arthritis. Prolotherapy and nutritional supplements can help alleviate, reverse, or end arthritic pain by treating an underlying cause that contributes to degenerative disease, ligament laxity. Strengthening ligaments and other connective tissue can help prevent bone on bone arthritis from developing.
