A DIFFICULT CASE
I could see it in her eyes! "C" had not been well for a long time. I asked her
if she could remember the last time she felt well. She could not even answer
that question. Generally, that type of response means the person may have some
sort of systemic problem going on. Oftentimes, when looking back into their
early childhood years, we find that the person was not breast fed and may have
been introduced to solid foods too quickly as an infant, causing the person to
now experience a lot of
food allergies.
In "C"’s situation, it turns out she was a colicky baby and even had low energy
as a teenager. She had all the classic signs of someone who had chronic fatigue
syndrome, but what really brought her to
Caring
Medical was
Prolotherapy
and the hope of getting out of
chronic pain. Her main working diagnosis by her
traditional medical doctors was
fibromyalgia. Here is a list of some of her
symptoms:
debilitating fatigue
horrific body pain
unremittant
headaches
irregular, painful menses
insomnia
burning feet
dry mouth
systemic bloating
hot flashes
lethargy
low sex drive
irritability
depression
…need I continue???
"C" was a mess. I told her on the first visit that in a year she would be a
different person. This was not a guarantee, but a good probability. She looked
skeptical. Who wouldn’t be skeptical? She had already seen 7 other practitioners
and received virtually no relief of her symptoms. We did some tests and
treatments based on the results of those tests, but her program ultimately
looked like this:
Xyrem prescribed for
sleep
Follow a Hypoallergenic
diet (she had a lot of food allergies)
Start anabolic natural
hormones to improve muscle tone and eliminate pain
Start taking IM vitamin shots at home (she was very deficient)
Started a supplement program
Prescribed antifungal herbs and medications
Prescribed
antibiotics (for chronic bacterial infections)
Prescribed an
exercise regime
WOW! That’s a lot for someone in such bad condition to do! Well, it was a lot of
work. But "C" was determined to try it. She ultimately improved, but her
improvement was very gradual. She lost 30 pounds and began feeling better
emotionally, but her pain was still an issue.
She started Prolotherapy after a few months of improved overall health. We
started Prolotherapy to her
lower
back, with which she responded very well. She
then wanted to have her neck treated, followed by her knees, her shoulders, and
finally her ankles.
As of today, it is one year later. If you saw "C", you wouldn't think it was the
same person. She has a new sense of hope and confidence about her. If you saw
her on the street, you would still say she is an
overweight middle aged woman.
But I can tell you, she is not the same on the inside! She is getting stronger.
She sleeps soundly. She has intimacy with her husband. Yes, her life is on the
right track. She has no more debilitating
headaches. Her muscles don't hurt any
more when she gets up. She is a better mother...a better sister...a better
wife...a better person...and that makes the world a better place...yes, the more
complicated a case, the more likely a person is going to need Prolotherapy.
