Yoga Injury Healed with Prolotherapy
Most people who engage in physical activity believe that a good stretch at the end of a workout is the proper way to cool down and prevent injury. Some even engage in intense yoga practice to keep muscles loose. Excessive stretching or Yoga, however, can stretch ligaments inappropriately, leading to injury and pain. Yes, you can overstretch!

Take the case of Hilary, a 51-year old woman who had a long history of yoga practice. She was fit, lean and believed that yoga had helped her get that way. Unfortunately, her
low back had been in pain for over a year after she injured it in a yoga position. As a result she had decreased her strength and cardio workouts and lost muscle mass. She went from working out everyday to working out twice a week with back pain after both workouts. Her low back pain included sciatica and episodes of her back going out. She continued yoga and even used a special headstand to self-adjust her spine. She had also tried massage therapy and trigger point therapy. She had short term relief after acupuncture and she had it done every week. As the weeks started to add up she was ready for a permanent solution to her back pain. When she heard of Prolotherapy she decided to give it a try.

During her first visit to Caring Medical
Dr. Hauser discussed the impact that excessive stretching can have on lligaments. He encouraged Hilary to stay active throughout the course of treatment but to focus on strength training and to avoid rapid twisting motions. He decided to strengthen the normal Prolotherapy solution by adding sodium morrhuate, an extract of cod liver oil, to the solution to create a stronger inflammatory response. Hilary left her first visit with a new supplement regime that promoted soft tissue healing, physical activity instructions, and a newfound hope that her back pain could be healed.

As Hilary returned for more treatments she began to see improvements in her low back. After her first treatment, she noted to us that her back was not going out as often. After her second treatment, she noted that the sciatic pain was gone and that her pain was much better, although still slightly present. After her third and fourth treatments she felt like she was about 90% pain free.

Just after her fourth treatment Hilary encountered a setback. She had an intense strength training session and told us that her back pain had come back. She was worried that she had injured it again and that her past treatments had gone to waste. We encouraged her to come in for a fifth treatment so that Dr. Hauser could examine her low back and continue the healing process that was still occurring from her previous treatments. She was treated with the same strong solution and told to ease back into her workouts.

One month after her fifth
Prolotherapy treatment to her low back she emailed us to let us know she was feeling great! She was back to her desired workout schedule and was able to do intense strength training again. She said her recovery was remarkable and was excited to be active again. We were happy to hear that she had found a permanent solution to her back pain, as she continues to do well.

Hilary is just one of many patients who had been experiencing chronic low back pain and trying everything but Prolotherapy, until she could not take it anymore. Her story shows the effectiveness of Prolotherapy and how it allows one to stay active during the treatment series, and provide permanent relief within a few short months.

Are you ready to rid yourself of pain that has lasted too long? Are you ready to get back to your old, more active self? We are ready to help! Give us a call today to get started on your path to pain-free living.

There is no known cure for arthritis. Prolotherapy and nutritional supplements can help alleviate, reverse, or end arthritic pain by treating an underlying cause that contributes to degenerative disease, ligament laxity. Strengthening ligaments and other connective tissue can help prevent bone on bone arthritis from developing.
