PROLOTHERAPY AND
NEURAL THERAPY
Some people experience
chronic pain that is not due to
ligament or
tendon weakness. Some chronic pain stems from nerve irritation. This type of pain may be relieved by a treatment known as Neural Therapy.
Neural Therapy is a gentle healing technique developed in Germany that involves the injection of local anesthetics into autonomic ganglia, peripheral nerves, scars, glands, acupuncture points,
trigger points, and other tissues.
Trigger Points
This is the reason conventional treatments for pain so often fail. It's a
mistake to assume that the problem is at the place that hurts! Travell and
Simons' research has shown that trigger points are the primary cause of pain
seventy-five percent of the time and are at least a part of nearly every
pain problem. The two main components of a trigger point are a localized
area of maximum contraction of the individual muscle cells (sarcomeres)
called a knot, and the overstretched “Z” bands that result between the knot
and the muscle’s attachment to a nearby bone.
Prolozone®
In regard to using Ozone as the
proliferant in Prolotherapy,
here are my thoughts: Few doctors in the United States have treated as
many patients as I have with Ozone therapy. I learned Ozone therapy from
the then-president of the German Ozone Society (main organization
utilizing ozone therapy at the time), Gerd Wasser, M.D. Besides teaching
me major autohemotherapy, direct ozone gas insufflations, he taught me
to inject ozone therapy into joints. I myself received Ozone therapy
into my knee joint to try it and have utilized it on some of my
patients.
SYNVISC and Prolotherapy
In the years that synvisc has been out, I have not had even one person tell me that it provided any significant pain relief. Yet everyday in that same eight year period I have patients with arthritis receive Prolotherapy and get considerable pain relief. Why would this be? |
