Lower back injury
A patient had significant lower back injury
because she fell off of a horse. She tried numerous treatments without help. She
finally heard about
Prolotherapy she thought about coming to visit
us in Oak Park, Illinois but decided to go to someone closer.
She tried a couple of sessions of
Prolotherapy
with a doctor but it didn’t work. It just happened that ‘his group’ did other
things so she was referred for these other things. She ended up with two steroid
facet
blocks, two
radiofrequency facet destructions, two
sacroiliac
anesthetic blocks and then two
sacroiliac joint radiofrequency destructions. She
believes all of the above cost at least $35,000. Most was covered by
insurance
but she is out a few thousand. So let’s sum up her care:
1. She didn’t come to Caring Medical where each
lower back
Prolotherapy treatment would have cost her $525, of which, many
clients with private insurance will typically see at least $300 covered by their
insurance policy, although insurance coverage cannot be guaranteed. This does
not include those with HMO-type insurance or Medicare.
2. Say in the worst case scenario it took her six visits she would have had an
expense of $225/treatment plus travel expense. We’ll put the travel expense high
at $500/visit…so she would have had out of pocket expense around $5000.
I hear the above story way too many times. We
nearly never refer people to these procedures mentioned above because they don’t
need it because they the majority of patients get well with Prolotherapy!
