Prolotherapy Along with Hauser Diet
Natural Medicine Program
Gets Golf League Player
Back on the Links
JJ, a 46 year old female competitive
league golfer, was first seen at
Caring Medical in late 2006. She
was 5’6”, 211 pounds with good muscle mass. She complained of her knees
“giving out” along with having bilateral medial weakness, joint
stiffness, pain and recurring edema with most leg exercises. JJ was
diagnosed with
chondromalacia and bilateral
joint laxity by her orthopedic doctor. He prescribed a daily
anti-inflammatory
medication and ordered
her to discontinue golf and lower extremity weight training for a
minimum of 8 weeks. He also ordered 10 weeks of
physical therapy which resulted
in no improvement in her pain. She rated her pain as a 6 to 7 on a scale
of 10 when she arrived at Caring Medical from North Carolina.
JJ began
Prolotherapy at her first visit.
She was already on a good supplement program which we tweaked a little
to maximize healing. We also talked to JJ about the proper exercises
that would hasten her rehabilitation. Cycling and walking on a Bosu ball
have been found to be very helpful in strengthening the joints and
muscles of the lower body. Cycling especially helps to heal the
Cartilage and meniscus
of the knee because these structures only get nourished by having joint
fluid pushed around them, which is most effectively accomplished by a
full range of motion exercise such as cycling.
JJ began dextrose
Prolotherapy
with
human growth
hormone (HGH) on her first visit and then continued it on an
almost monthly schedule for seven months. We have found that HGH
combined with the normal
Prolotherapy
solution speeds the regeneration
of cartilage tissue. After seven treatments, she reported an 80%
improvement in knee strength, and a 50% reduction in pain, which she
rated as a 3. She began to increase her golf and exercise levels, with
some discomfort coming after 18 holes, especially if she played on
consecutive days. She no longer used
anti-inflammatory drugs and has had
no recurrences of her knees “giving out”. JJ requested comparison x-rays
to be ordered to see if there was a quantifiable improvement. See below
to view the quite remarkable improvement received before vs. after
Prolotherapy in a JJ who was told she had bone-on-bone and would need to
permanently curtain her activities.
JJ committed to a strength and
conditioning program along with following the
Hauser Otter Diet (higher
protein and lower carb diet) and was able to lose 38 pounds because her
knees were strong enough to stand up to the rigors of the exercise
program and golf. She sometimes will twist a knee in a game but she
returns to Caring Medical for intermittent treatment if needed. JJ
thought that her golfing days were over at such a young age. She reports
that she is very happy she found Prolotherapy and Caring Medical because
she was not only able to play golf competitively again, but she was able
to improve her overall health.
